VistaGraphics, Inc., a multi-faceted media company based in Virginia Beach, seeks an experienced, talented and innovative Editor-in-Chief to oversee the editorial content for Coastal Virginia Magazine and CoVa BIZ. This is a full-time position.
We are looking for someone who is familiar with the Coastal Virginia region in order to direct the content of both a lifestyle and business-to-business publication. The ideal candidate should be passionate about creative storytelling, poised to represent each publication with integrity, organized and adept at managing multiple priorities at once and motivated to be a thoughtful leader and team member. In this role, the Editor-in-Chief will plan, execute and edit 12 issues a year; gather feature story ideas by being abreast of local news, trends, and people of interest; manage/hire editorial department members and a staff of 15-plus regular freelance writers; and represent both magazines at public events and engagements including speaking opportunities, panels, meetings, etc.
-Overseeing the editorial content for Coastal Virginia Magazine and CoVa BIZ, ensuring the content reflects the magazines’ goals and vision
-Overseeing editorial content for ancillary publications and supplements, reviewing each publication in its final stages, proofreading for accuracy and clarity, ensuring that the content represents each publication’s distinguished brand, goals and vision
-Communicating with freelance writers to assign stories
-Initiating and creating new cover features and special issues
-Determining budgets, page counts, word counts and deadlines for each issue
-Working with the art department to collaborate on layouts and design that best reflect the content
-Laying out a dummy book for each issue
-Editing stories from staff and freelance writers
-Managing large-scale projects including Top Docs and Top Dentists, Best Of, Giving Back Awards, Millennials on the Move and Best Places to Work
-Regularly writing Editor’s Note, cover lines, story introductions and other miscellaneous copy
-Writing short, medium and long stories when needed
-Proofreading and approving all editorial page proofs before print
-Reading and responding to emails from staff, freelance writers, PR professionals, readers and outside colleagues
-Organizing and leading writers’ meetings
-Overseeing general online content for each publication
-Assisting in special events whenever needed
-College degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field required

1. Account Executive:
Responsible for the on-going and daily sales and territory activities for defined territories. These activities include all issues regarding sales, production, collections, distribution of publications and customer service to hospitality related accounts and prospects and distribution, merchandising responsibility for specific publications. Sales growth within territory is expected to grow by expanding our current base and by exploiting the opportunities that exist for our various products with our current base. The position of sales reports to the Sales Manager regarding performance against sales goals, distribution, collections and production. A challenging position that covers a wide array of responsibilities especially deadlines with outside clients. Similar responsibilities ad Account Executive, however markets are on a smaller scale and territories may include special assignment sales initiatives. This position requires extensive, short-term weekly travel to markets and/or assignments.
